“My portraits are about emotional perception. Having been a very quiet child, I observed people, and how they interacted with others. I would imagine what their lives were like – where they came from, and where they might be going. I am interested in getting a likeness, but my passion runs much deeper. I strive to show the character, the soul of the person I am painting. Only then am I satisfied.”
Sari has been teaching drawing, painting, and portraiture for over 25 years. She studied with Daniel E. Greene, the late Peter Berg, and many other gifted artists over the years. Sari began her portrait career in high school, drawing rock stars for her friends. Currently, she has been commissioned by Xerox, Eastman School of Music, Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester Psychiatric Center, and various legal and medical affiliations where her portraits hang.
Although Sari is known for her pastel work, she also loves to paint in oil and colored pencil. She was published in THE BEST OF COLORED PENCIL, and has won national awards, including a PASTEL JOURNAL award in 2008. Sari did some pastel technique videos for Rochester Art Supply, which led to her being hired by Wiley Press to be a technical editor for an up coming book on pastel painting.
Sari teaches classes and workshops in portraiture, landscape, still life and floral painting in her spacious and inviting studio in Rochester. She teaches, and tutors in all mediums, to all age groups, beginners to advanced.
